Is there a border we will never cross? Are there places we will never reach, no matter how hard we try? It turns out, there are. Even with sci-fi technology, we are trapped in a limited pocket of the Universe and the finite stuff within it. How much universe is there for us and how far can we go?

Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell
Hey Everybody! So this video is a remake and remaster of an older video that has a mistake in it. You can watch the original here: nosections.info/green/u4FksIt6l3uKu9g/video.html What is the mistake? In a nutshell: In the original video we said that it was PHYSICALLY impossible to leave the local group and reach other galaxy groups. That the rest of the universe is moving away from us too fast to catch up. But that’s wrong. It is not PHYSICALLY impossible to leave the Local Group, just extremely unlikely that we’ll ever do it. BUT: If you have a lot of time and a fast spaceship you can still get to a limited amount of galaxies - these galaxies will eventually get out of reach forever but until then, they are technically within reach. So why did we keep the video up and didn’t purge it when we deleted our addiction and refugee crisis videos? Well, it has to do with the nature and severity of the mistake: We did talk to a few astrophysicists to ask them what they thought and if we should take down the video. Their feedback was pretty clear, they thought it was still fine as the universe expansion things explained in the video are correct and they didn’t consider the local group thing as too major. This was actually a case of “good enough”. Also, back when this original upload happened, Kurzgesagt was operating at pretty tight margins and just redoing a video was not easy for us. Back then the team was small and we were fighting to put new videos out. So we just swallowed the bitter pill and kept the video around. But the video still bothered us, as far as we know this was the biggest unfixed mistake on the channel. Super frustrating, especially because the core idea of the video is so fascinating. The limit of our species. The actual limit. So yeah, we finally remade the video, sorry for taking this long, life got in the way. The original video will stay up, you can compare the two if you want to see how far we have come in a few years in terms of production quality. All in all, we could only grow the channel and work on getting better because of direct support from you guys. So thank you for that. - Philipp PS: If you want, check out our shop for some new posters about the universe posters and black hole plushies and stuff like that: bit.ly/3dRJj71

If we look at space through the eyes of science? We will never understand the meanings and true origins. We are all source beings that were all created at the beginning, and we have have live countless lives. You are connected to everything in the universe and soon enough those who recognize their true nature will be able to connect with all of the beings in the universes. How? We are already connected, we are all one. Look at the spiritual side of the universe. It may lead you into a place of better understanding and less speculation by ‘science.’ Just a thought Love to all❤️

Despite this video being a joy to watch, but its takes myths as facts, the myth of galaxies moving faster than light, but on the other hand ignores one of the fundamental rules of physics, no mass can reach the speech of light! So there is no chance of a galactic mass such as a galaxy to reach the speed of light!

guys don't let one video make you feel insignificant. you are better than that, even if it seems you are a speck of dust in this infinite universe of curiosity and wonder we couldn't begin to imagine what it holds.....remember that you aren't a speck of dust to the people you love and those who love you. keep your head up everyone, we're all in this together.
Welnux 6 timer siden
it doesn't sound right to me. the main problem is that it was explained like we're at the center of the universe, and everything is moving away from us but I don't think it's the reality. like if one local group is moving away so one should come closer from the other way because we're not at the center of the explosion. Okay I can get that we will be also floating away from that other group coming behind us but how can we tell who is faster?
Yarmoth 7 timer siden
Fascinating stuff but I hope everyone keeps in mind that all of this is extremely theoretical. Much of what we know is based on physics, as we know it, and math....as we know it. There's know true, solid way of knowing what will happen.

The speed of light is a theoretical limit only for the physics we know. The physics that we don't know; that's a very different story. For example, how is dark energy allowing the universe to expand faster than light, and how is this speed of expansion actually increasing? Quantum Physics and The Theories of Relativity are not the complete picture. There's a lot going on in the cosmos we don't understand. So chill pill guys. Humanity has no limits. Just targets. And we'll achieve every single one of them.

I'm an ex neo-vedantic (hindu roots) new ager. I used to be into so much cosmic sh*t: channelings, ancient wisdom, gurus, psychedelics and mystics. I was enlightened then 6 years ago I got properly enlightened/converted by the *Holy Spirit* which showed what a fool I was. Spirit led me to the real *Yahshua/Jesus Christ* and everything changed. This is being born again. It escapes the notice of our self-obsessed and glamour soaked world but we're in a spiritual WAR for souls; the immensity of ignorance is astonishing: the dark powers bedazzling the minds of the masses. We've inherited an ancient spiritual subversion: the earth is fallen, the holistic fields of nature are fallen state - nothing is as was meant to be. Mankind is a spiritually fallen race highly prone to deceit and delusion. It's often remarked that hinduism, buddhism et al came long before Christ as if it's a valid point. But it ain't. Jesus came in the fullness of time, when He meant to in the course of history. As a new ager I didn't wanna believe but in the *Light of Spirit* Jesus really is the *Way, the truth and the Life* just like He said and He meant it literally: no one comes to God except through Jesus, there's no other way (Matthew 7:13-14). As a neo-vedantist I wasn't convinced but turns out the Bible is Spirit breathed, written by men inspired by the Holy Spirit. Jesus is beautifully portrayed and endorsed in the new testament, in fact he's apparent in the old testament too (Luke 24:27 & 44) and by the *Light of Spirit* we're allowed to *see* that and *know Him.* The Bible is the Revelation of Jesus Christ. We're in the the end-times for real. It's serious sh*t. In a world obsessed by esoterism and "going within" Jesus is quite *exoteric* - He will come again from *without.* Satan's comin at us all guns blazing with notions of love and unity. But Jesus said He comes not to bring peace but a *sword* and with it He'll divide the world: the wheat from the tares, the goats from the sheep. There'll be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. Jesus said we must be born again of *Spirit* to see the Kingdom of God.

What if the ether theory is correct somehow and it exerts resistence against light, causing redshift due that resistence through huge distances? In this case, there is no expansion and the Universe jut SEEM to expand because we think the redshift is Doppler effect instead of thinking about is as the photons losing energy through their travel through space. .. And what if this expansion is something else? The only thing that accelerates through time is freefalling. What if the Universe is freefalling to all directions at once, as if iit is being attracted by other universes uniformly distributed around it? And what if the expansion is jut a way to save video memory and CPU usage time eliminating distant objects through time to compensate the increasing of our observational capabilities and the complexity of our technology, conscience and relations? Quite like a videogame, what if the Universe needs to choose what it will render to ensure the time-space works right, to avoid slowdowns that, otherwirse, could ruin physics - that is strongly time-dependant. What if?

It’s kind of like when you’re tying your shoes while walking with a group and the other people in the group don’t wait for you. By this I mean that humanity is you tying your shoes. We’re trying to hurry up as fast as possible so we can catch up and see the rest of the stars before they’re gone forever. But we’re preoccupied with trying to figure out the small things first like getting humans on another planet. Or another way of putting it: Your friends are going out for ice-cream but you have chores to do first so you get upset.

This video mixes the _what_ with the _why,_ a common danger. Astronomy videos are better when they describe the observable universe, not when they try to explain why it is what we see. The _why_ of most human explanations has the lifetime of a ripe banana, and are replaced just as easily. It is folly to believe that any of our current theories will withstand time.

I really enjoy these videos and how you guys take so much time to make sure everything you say is backed by scientific fact. However, scientific fact ALWAYS comes right after scientific theory. We are on the verge (even though time is relative) to understanding how the fabric of the universe is malleable, therefore, we CAN jump to distant star systems even though mathematically traveling at the speed of light it's impossible. I say this because the ending to this video is very depressing lol. But as we discover newer things, we have proven we are able to make the impossible possible.
