I just noticed something, this isn't a continuation, it's a parallel universe, you can see that the toad that mario slaps is yellow, the original is BLUE, and there are even more differences with the original, this is just the most noticable; it is a cycle across the multiverse, where Speed Demon gets caught time and time again, and it is looking a way to escape from it, you can see it in its final words, "This may be the end for me (as in this universe version of the Speed Demon), but it's not my end for you", see it all makes sense.

now that we sort of has a reset back to potentially before the first something about for each of the character (except luigi and everyone at the star fleet thing they remember or at least know what happend) so the question is now what happens next. it wouldnt make any sense for the speed demon to still be around even though they reset time, so whats gonna happen with mario. Heck why didnt the star fleet thing show up in the world of light video when every characters worlds first came together (could of been a earlier point but i cant be bothered to check) my guess it that the next major enemy for the characters (like the speed demon was) is gonna be the star fleet because they are gonna keep reseting the timelines and obviously it wouldnt be great to have litterally everything you do reset over and over again because the timelines merge together
