You say the 215 GTR is the most fun ski ride. So what is different from the 2011 215 GTR vs the 2018 230 GTR that makes the 215 better? I thought they were the same hull. You have me really intrigued by saying its the most fun ski. I look for my toys to give me smiles per hour. Thats how I bought all my motorcycles. So fun is what I'm looking for. I always thought my hull 18 GTi 155 SE with more power would be perfect. Keep up the great vids. Cheers.
The Watercraft Journal
There's no difference in hull or deck. The bump to 230 is marginal as well - so yes, ALL 2011-2019 GTR 215s and 230s would fall in this line.

How about the rocks and stuff flying up from my truck. I’m worried that it’ll damage the Seadoo without the cover. Doesn’t all that debris and stuff ruin the Seadoo?
The Watercraft Journal
You're going to build up road grime with or without a cover, as the hull is what gets coated (mainly) with whatever your truck/SUV is kicking up.
MikeZ32TT
MikeZ32TT 6 timer siden
OMG, why did I not think of that. This would probably how I have developed 2 spots on the front that have turned dull. I don't have the scratches but you can see the clear coat has been rubbed dull. Ok so when I go on vacation and tow my seadoo Ill leave the cover off. I just didnt want all the road grime on my ski but that just takes a really good wash to get off.

If you leave the cover on, rubber bungee cords , tight, long distances take off the cover, unless you know a good seamstress , 65 mph destroys them!

Or simply do as Kevin says and DON'T DRIVE WITH THEM ON.

@The Watercraft Journal Maybe it was not installed correctly. I cruise at highway speeds with a 2020 FX Cruiser HO long distances and do not have an issue. It is designed to do this. I do put small microfiber towels over side mirror contact points, but again, can cruise all day long with no damage to ski or the cover.

EmotionRadio
EmotionRadio 15 timer siden
I was told by the Service Manager at Riva in Broward County FL that if you flash your ECU and flash back to stock, they can tell (data logs shows every change) and it does void your warranty. Perhaps some dealers are more lenient than others but do we really want to risk it? Yamaha, Sea-Doo and Kawi have bigger legal teams than most of us and they can easily tie performance modifications that you do to your ski to other areas of the ski but simply saying the ski was not intended to have performance modifications and said modifications can affect the performance and of the ski in it's entirety. Now...per the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, it states that a dealer must prove that aftermarket equipment caused the need for repairs before it can deny warranty coverage. But again, do you really want to go down that road? If Yamaha steps in and wants to push, you're likely going to lose or be out money for legal fees on your end. Maybe it's best to leave a ski that would otherwise be covered by warranty along until you're out of warranty or simply don't care that you're voiding. After all, a non-modded ski is more desirable than a modded ski when you are selling. Just a thought.
EmotionRadio
EmotionRadio 14 timer siden
@The Watercraft Journal haha I don’t want to deter anyone from modding but warranty matters can be tricky and in most cases, the consumer loses. - The Riva I mentioned is in Pompano (that’s the city), Broward is the County.
The Watercraft Journal
The Watercraft Journal 14 timer siden
There's no RIVA Motorsports in Broward County, is there? Pompano Beach, Miami and Key Largo - am I missing one? No, don't modify your ski. Anyone who is gonna wring their hands about voiding their warranty should not even consider it. Just leave it stock and enjoy it as-is.

I currently have a free flow exhaust with pump exit and stock water box...I haven’t changed the water box cause I’m unsure if it will make it louder. The noise at 20-30 speed is a bit unebearable. What can be done about lowering the exhaust noise without losing power? Can another style resonator be added to suppress the noise?

No. The low-end resonance is going to be worse with any further modifications. The plastic resonator you replaced was literally designed to remove that drone.

* you should put same amount of fuel as the RXT tank is bigger * yiu should race RXP and not an RXT vs the GP1800 as it is the top race line for seadoo ..rxt has more drag on water and stability but not the speed ( it is like a car ride for the rxt vs a bike ride for the rxp * you should use the lunch control fir the seadoo * if it is up to me I prefer the yamaha for reliability
The Watercraft Journal
* like we said, there's no way to PROVE that we had the same amount of fuel in both skis. * this video is 2 years old. The RXP-X then was already heavily out-classed by the then-new GP1800. We wanted to race the two newest top performers. * the Yamaha didn't have Launch Control so it wasn't fair (remember your request about the fuel tanks?) * it's not up to anybody. Facts are just facts.

Hey thanks for the info. I just got my 2021 Fish Pro with iDF and have about 150 miles on it (love it!). I have not tried engaging the iDF system yet. Is this something I need to do or will the problem present itself without my help? Preferred answer--> "Naa, if it hasn't happened by now, you're good!". ;-) And just to add, there is something I'm finding annoying and just wondering if anyone else out there is experiencing it. When I start up the engine at the dock, the boat creeps forward. I have gone through the "neutral adjust" process multiple times and it still goes forward at about 1-2 mph. 1-2 mph is not very fast, except if you're tied to a dock and loading a passenger with another boat in front of you. And one little nit-picky thing- when I'm going straight ahead at speed, the handle bars are tilted about 3 degrees to the left... :-( Thanks again for the video! I liked and subscribed!
The Watercraft Journal
Thankfully, you can manually adjust the steering linkage on the jet nozzle. You can preset the angle to properly align the bars with the nozzle so you won't get that. Per IDF, if it was going to fail it would've by now - so you're good. Simply stay on top of your regular maintenance and you'll be great. Glad to hear you're enjoying the heck out of it. Keep it up! And about the "lurching" thing...that's kinda just what happens.

If you live in a winter area like the NE, if you winterize your pwc, does the cold weather do any damage to the pwc? Is there a winter cover available, if someone has to store the pwc outside?
The Watercraft Journal
We haven't seen "winter covers" but yes, extremely cold temperatures can wreak havoc on your PWC, particularly if left unattended for months at a time. Always best to properly winterize your PWC, and use a UV-protective, water-resistant form-fitting cover. A secondary tarp might be useful.

WD-40 is 100% fine on rubber. This is an old wife's tale. WD-40 does not leech any chemicals from rubber. The only surfaces it cannot be used on are polycarbonate and clear polystyrene plastics. I got a question nobody has talked about. If you re-flash the ECU on an FX SVHO 8000+ rpm, can you still use the dashboard to limit the speed? Let’s say I want to take some chick for a ride but don’t want her to pin it 80+ mph. Would I be able to use the factory settings on the dash to limit to say 45mph? Thanks!

Perfect timing for this video. Yamaha released a recall for a bunch of their 2021 models (GP’s and VX’s). My dealership has ZERO timeframe on when parts to fix the ski’s will be out. Just my luck.

What brand/type of rubbing compound would you use to polish the painted Yamahas?
The Watercraft Journal
Slippery doesn't sell anything directly - only through licensed vendors. Unfortunately, the 2021 lineup is held up in international shipping, so there's a delay. There's a few outlets online with 2020 gear though.

@The Watercraft Journal thank you. I’m looking at mcguires and chemical guys. I’ve heard you rave about slippery vests but I can’t find anywhere that sells them. Do you have a link or location that has them?

Really any trusted automotive grade paint polish/rubbing compound would work. Kevin is a shill for Meguiar's so begin with their Cleaner Wax which has a very light abrasive to it. If you find the scratch or swirling doesn't lift, use their Cutting Compound.
